I work on the systems, data and standards behind how street works are coordinated across the road network — currently as IHAMS Project Manager at Durham County Council and Technical Project Lead at GeoPlace. My substantive post is Road & Street Works Systems Supervisor.

National and sector work

Most of what I do sits at the point where local delivery meets national standards. Chairing NEJAG and co-chairing NEHAUC means representing North East authorities and utilities; sitting on the DfT’s Street Manager Governance Group since 2020 means taking that regional view into the development of the national system. As Vice Chair of JAG(UK) the scope is national rather than regional.

I’m currently part of the HAUC(UK) working group rewriting the Coordination Code of Practice — the statutory guidance that governs how works are coordinated across the network. I’m also a member of the NUAR Senior Stakeholder Advisory Group.

I’ve also sat on a few shorter, task-and-finish groups: the DfT’s Street Works/Street Manager AI Assistant Working Group and its companion Ethics Group (2025), and GeoPlace’s DataVia VIEW Design Group (2026) — all concluded now, but the kind of thing I enjoy working on when a national body wants a practitioner’s view on data or AI.

On One.Network specifically, I was part of Causeway’s own “Super User” group from 2022 until it wound down in 2025. Since then I’ve set up and chair the Causeway One User Group instead — an independent, user-led group for other One.Network users that didn’t really exist before. Causeway isn’t part of it — feedback to them goes separately — but other highway authorities are starting to join.

Training

  • National Conditions Text (NCT) for street and road works — designed and delivered training sessions for NEHAUC members, with Jonathan Sabbatinelli and Rachel Dodds, covering both in-person and virtual delivery. The aim was consistent understanding and application of NCTs across England by highway authorities and utilities alike.
