Highway asset management system implementation — Durham County Council, since 2026

Leading the implementation of IHAMS, coordinating cross-departmental requirements, supplier engagement and delivery planning, with responsibility for governance, risk and stakeholder reporting.

I’m also on the corporate working group overseeing a commissioned service-level architecture review of digital systems across Neighbourhoods and Environment, including where AI and automation could realistically be applied.

A Copilot Studio agent for Alloy administrators

Alongside the implementation work I built a Microsoft 365 Copilot Studio agent to support Causeway Alloy administrators.

The problem it solves is a familiar one. The knowledge needed to administer a system like this is spread across supplier documentation, external websites, internal guides and accumulated local notes — and finding the relevant paragraph takes longer than acting on it once you have it. The agent removes the search step: you ask the question and get the answer, rather than working out which document to open first.

Grounding it

The agent draws on external websites and uploaded files. The interesting part was the local knowledge — years of internal guidance and notes that existed but were impractical to search. I used AI to compress that material down to something that fits usefully in the context window, so the agent answers from how we actually work here, not just from the supplier’s documentation.

In use

I now have 2 other technical staff, and 1 manager using the agent, so it does work, and it’s improved system learning significantly, but, as ever, more to add :)
